The impact of the EU ETS on aviation emissions will be minimal unless it has an early baseline year and an overall cap in keeping with a cumulative emission pathway of 450ppmv

This latest Tyndall Working Paper is by Alice Bows and Kevin Anderson at Tyndall Centre Manchester University
Jim Watson's, of Sussex University and the Tyndall Centre, new report is today featured by the Guardian newspaper
The Tyndall Centre in 2005 first highlighted to media and government its rigorous analysis of aviation's conflict with climate change targets

The growing emissions of aviation and shipping and what they mean for climate change targets are ongoing research topics at Tyndall first published in 2005.

Last year's authorative analysis demonstrated what growing aviation and shipping emissions imply for the targets of the draft Climate Change Bill

The EU last week formally approved a proposal to include aviation in the bloc's own emission trading scheme from 2012. Shipping remains excluded.

CONFERENCE 2009
———————————-
I would like to extend this opportunity to participate in the
second edition of ‘Entrepreneurship for a zero carbon society’.
We now looking for enthusiastic and dedicated students to join
the committee.

Who are we? In 2008, the ‘CambridgeClimate’ Conference team was
formed to organise the University of Cambridge’s first ever
international summit on sustainable development and clean
technology. CambridgeClimate was a collaboration between the
Cambridge Zero Carbon Society and the Cambridge University
Entrepreneurs (CUE). The first ‘Entrepreneurship for a Zero
Carbon Society’ conference brought together an international
audience of over 200 to bring together a collaborative forum
for policy-makers, entrepreneurs, investors and technologists
to discuss the emerging energy crisis. It has now become a
unique conference for the UK and Cambridge and can only grow in
success with a new team.

The event created a platform for students to reach out to
influential members of government, investment bodies and
businesses, and to learn how we can collaborate to contribute
to a zero carbon society.

We are seeking a new committee to build on the success and host
the next edition in September 2009. The team will work with the
rest of the zero carbon team to define and develop the
conference over the next few months and to take it to success.

What to do next? If you wish to get involved in the committee
team, please send your brief CV and a short paragraph to
conference@zerocarbonnow.org explaining your motivations, what
you can bring to the society and potential time commitment.

The following positions open for grab:

**President** shall be responsible to steer the committee and
provide strategic roadmaps on successfully organising the
second edition of the conference

**Vice President** shall be responsible for assisting the
President in implementing the strategic roadmaps and
coordinating the committee

**Treasurer** shall be responsible for keeping track of
financials and working closely to assist Sponsorship Officer

**Media Officer** shall be responsible for updating website
with details of upcoming event

**Marketing Officer** shall be responsible for the marketing of
events and the society, as well as maintaining a good
relationship with other societies, parties, institutes and
departments.

and

**Sponsorship Officer** shall be responsible to re-new current
sponsorship deals and find new sponsors for the society. By
working closely with emerging sponsors for the events, you will
develop a closer relationship with the recruiters and stand a
better chance to get an internship or post-graduate position.

We look forward to meeting you and welcoming to you the team.

Research led by UEA's Climatic Research Unit has demonstrated for the first time that human activity is responsible for significant warming in both polar regions
The Tyndall Centre in 2005 first highlighted to media and government its rigorous analysis of aviation's conflict with climate change targets

The growing emissions of aviation and shipping and what they mean for climate change targets are ongoing research topics at Tyndall, with the most recent global results published just last month.

Below is the original 2005 press release, and last year's authorative analysis of what aviation and shipping implied for the targets of the draft Climate Change Bill

The EU last week formally approved a proposal to include aviation in the bloc's own emission trading scheme from 2012. Shipping remains excluded.
